Arlin Krummen - Mar. 17, 1917 - Mar. 10, 2001

Arlin Krummen, 83, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Arlin Captain, the son of Alfred and Nellie (Captain) Krummen, was born on March 17, 1917, in Loretto, Ky. At the age of two, the family moved to Indiana. He was baptized in Wesley Methodist Church. He attended school in Wells County and graduated in May of 1935 from Chester Center High School.

On Dec. 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen "Susan" Alspach. The couple lived near Warren, Ind., where Mr. Krummen drove truck for 13 years. In 1948 they moved to their farm in Linn Grove where he farmed until he retired in 1979. He also did carpentry work and powertime work with Isaac Gentis on the side.

Mr. Krummen was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove where he served as an elder, a trustee and a member of the pulpit committee. He was also a member of the FHA board for a few years.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching sports and putting together puzzles. He cherished the moments spent at their cabin in northern Minnesota with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Krummen was preceded in death by his parents; one son Freddie Al; one brother Charles and one granddaughter Laurie Rae Jaycox.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters: Arlene and her husband Ray Jaycox of Lake Park, Jan Atwell of Red Lodge, Mont. and Carol and her husband Richard Palbicki of Bloomington, Minn; two sons: Steven and his wife Jennifer Krummen of Lake Park and Jeffrey and his wife Lory Krummen of Linn Grove; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Vera Millikan of Walsenburg, Colo. and Mary Della and her husband Don Cochran of Decatur, Ind.; a special friend Dale and his wife Margaret Hunnicutt of Hartford City, Ind.; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Krummen will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 13, 2001, at Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove with Rev. William Rudy officiating.

Pallbearers are Bart Jaycox, Stewart Krummen, Trevor Atwell, Chad Jaycox, Craig Krummen, Shane Atwell, Royce Krummen, Justin Palbicki, Ross Palbicki and Neil Krummen.

Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
