Enos "Bud" Ahart - Dec. 22, 1916 - Mar. 11, 2001

Enos "Bud" Ahart, 84, of Storm Lake, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Enos Anthony, the son of Joseph and Mary Ruth (Kelly) Ahart, was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Crofton, Neb. He attended school in Early. Following his education he began farming. During World War II he served in the United States Army where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy. Following the war he returned to farming.

On Nov. 19, 1950, he married Joyce Hovenburg. He continued to farm, and his love of the occupation spanned 59 years.

Mr. Ahart was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alta where he served as an elder for several years. He was also a member of VFW Post 6172 of Alta and a member of the American Legion Smith Post 498 of Alta.

He enjoyed working with, helping and joking with neighbors and also baking his big oatmeal cookies for family and friends. He was a good friend to all and touched a lot of lives.

Mr. Ahart was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Doris Gustafson and one sister-in-law Eileen Ahart.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Storm Lake; one son Lawrence and his wife Marilyn Ahart of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter Deb and her husband Terry Madsen of Elk Horn; five grandchildren; two sisters: LaVerne and her husband Walter Dierenfield of Storm Lake and Kathryn and her husband Wesley Wadsworth of Belmont, Calif.; one brother Neal and his wife Marjorie Ahart of Cassville, Mo.; one brother-in-law Harold and his wife Zola Gustafson of Storm Lake; many nieces, nephews, numerous friends and neighbors.

Funeral services for Mr. Ahart were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church in Alta with Dr. Robert Tollefson officiating.

Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Barker Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
