Inez McKeighan Latta - Oct. 22, 1914 - Jan. 23, 2008

Inez McKeighan Latta, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Inez was born October 22, 1914, in Shelby County, Iowa, to Will and Eva (McDonald) Chipman. She spent her youth in Shelby County and attended school at Shelby County Country School. Although her education was deferred after the 8th grade, Inez had always been proud of the fact that she graduated at the top of her eighth grade class.

On March 28, 1930, Inez was united in marriage to William John McKeighan in Shelby County. The couple was blessed with three children: Donald William, Sharon Elaine and Karen Faye. William died in 1977. Inez married Ralph Evert Latta on September 7, 1985, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

In addition to making a warm and comfortable home for her family, Inez also worked as a waitress, was a day care provider, served as a cook for the Larabee and Cherokee school districts, matron at the Spirit Lake, Emmet and Buena Vista county homes, and baker and dessert cook at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake where she also belonged to the United Methodist Women and served as a nursery attendant. Inez was also a member of Rebekah Lodge and the Moose Lodge in Storm Lake.

Inez enjoyed many crafts, music, dancing and traveling to North Carolina and Florida to visit many family members and friends. She was a wonderful cook and welcomed all who came into her home to share in her delicious baked goods. But more than anything in this life, Inez treasured her family. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Inez will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sharon Stanford of Mount Dora, Florida; her daughter, Karen Salmen of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Kandice Mills, Jeffrey Stanford, Renae Malloy, Randy Florke, Ronnie Florke, Rachel Masterson and Richard Nelson, Teresa Waterbury and Scott Salmon; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Ann (Russell) Haas of Harlan; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Chipman of Harlan; step children, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William McKeighan; her son, Donald McKeighan; her second husband, Ralph E. Latta; brothers Wayne and Russell; and sisters Mae, Ilene and Alice.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Latta will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
