Beverly J. Benberg, 81, formerly of Spencer and Storm Lake, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Spencer Municipal Hospital following a brief illness.

Beverly Jane, the daughter of Theodore G. and Della M. (Brallier) Hagberg, was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Cohasset, Minn. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1937.

She married Marion E. Elston on Oct. 31, 1938, in Jackson, Minn. He preceded her in death. On July 21, 1979, she married Vince C. Mullane in Storm Lake. He died on Nov. 1, 1982, and on Dec. 27, 1984, she married Fred O. "Fritz" Benberg in Storm Lake.

Mrs. Benberg worked for more than 20 years in restaurants in Spencer and the Iowa Lakes area. She then worked for 20 years as a purchasing agent for Iowa Office Supply in Spencer and later in Storm Lake.

She was an active member of the Alta Church of Christ, a member of B.P.W. and enjoyed working as a volunteer for the Department of Human Services.

For the past several years she has made her home at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Mrs. Benberg was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one brother Kenneth; three sisters: Thelma Hagberg, Theora Kaul and Evelyn Snyder and one son-in-law Elmer Carr.

She is survived by her husband Fritz of Newell; four sons: Theodore and his wife Irmgard Elston of New Hope, Ala., Kenneth and his wife Renate Elston of Parksville, S.C., David Elston of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Richard and his wife Charlotte Elston of Mount Pleasant, N.C.; two daughters: Julie Elston of Glenwood and Mary Elston Carr of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A private family memorial service was held Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake with Rev. Tom Hinshaw of First Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. Benberg's body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Hospital for medical research, and her ashes will be buried in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
