James "Fred" Friedrich, 47, of Courtland, Minn., passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake from a brain tumor.

James "Fred" Lee, the son of Harold and Frances (Bremer) Friedrich, was born Sept. 5, 1953, in Storm Lake. He graduated from Alta High School in 1971 and from Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny in 1973.

On Aug. 7, 1976, he was united in marriage to Charlene Johnson in Alta. Mr. Friedrich was involved in management and sales positions in Marshalltown, Sioux Falls, S.D., Omaha, Neb., Batavia, Ill., Slinger, Wis., and New Ulm, Minn. His most recent position was at Pace Inc. of Brandon, S.D., as district salesman for the State of Minnesota. In October of 2000, he received the honor of Salesman of the Year.

He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, Minn. and had served a three year term on the Board of Elders.

Mr. Friedrich was preceded in death by his mother.

He is survived by his wife Charlene; one son and one daughter: Chad Friedrich and Lisa Friedrich, both of Courtland, Minn.; his father Harold Friedrich of Alta; one sister Dorothy and her husband Richard Symonsbergen of Nebraska City, Neb.; two brothers: David and his wife Patricia Friedrich of Alta and Duane and his wife Elizabeth Friedrich of Houston, Texas; his father and mother-in-law Wayne and Donna Johnson of Alta; one sister-in-law Annette and her husband Patrick Petersen of Alta and one brother-in-law Bryon and his wife Mary Johnson of Ankeny.

Memorials may be directed to The American Brain Tumor Association; St. Paul's Lutheran School; Minnesota Valley Lutheran School.

Funeral services for Mr. Friedrich will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2001, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, Minn., with Pastor David Kolander officiating.

Burial will be held at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Alta on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001. A prayer service will be held prior to the burial at 10:30 a.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Alta led by Pastor Jeffrey Bovee.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Barker Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m.
