Janice Kay (Jan) Rowe, 55, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home in Holton, Kan.
Janice Kay was born Nov. 17, 1945, in LeMars, the daughter of Helen and Clyde Coppock. She was raised in LeMars and graduated from LeMars High School in 1964. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., on June of 1966 with an A.A. degree. That fall she became a flight attendant with United Airlines and pursued this career until her marriage to William W. Bates of Storm Lake on Sept. 7, 1968.
To this union three children, Kim, Suzanne, and Bill, were born. During this time, they lived in Providence, R.I., and Athens, Ga. They moved to San Diego, Calif., and she and her children lived there while her husband served in Vietnam. Upon his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Storm Lake and later to Topeka, Kan.
Her husband died on April 21, 1989, and on Dec. 18, 1993, she married Stan Rowe of Topeka, Kan. The couple lived in Burlington for four years before returning to Kansas.
Mrs. Rowe's hobbies included stamping, quilting, reading and enjoying her computer.
She was preceded in death by her father Clyde Coppock and her first husband, Bill Bates.
Mrs. Rowe is survived by her husband Stan of Holton, Kan.; her mother and step-father Helen and Adrian Kale of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands: Kim and Todd Scott of Peosta and Suzanne and Toby Jackson of Kansas City, Mo.; one son and his wife Bill and Heather Bates of Schaller; three grandchildren; one brother and his wife Darrell and Kathy Coppock of Marion and one step-daughter Alexis Rowe of Topeka, Kan.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, Kan., with Rev. Paul Babcock officiating.
