Hertha Svendsen, 84, of Alta, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Harborside Point Place in Toledo, Ohio.

Hertha Kristine, the daughter of Jens and Maria (Mikkelsen) Borresen, was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Tyler, Minn. She graduated from Tyler High School and Grand View College in Des Moines.

She married Elmer M. Svendsen on Sept. 24, 1939, in Tyler, Minn. The couple always made their home in Alta where Mrs. Svendsen was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993 and two brothers: Sven Borresen and Aage Borresen.

Mrs. Svendsen is survived by one daughter Sandi and her husband Newell Nelson off Toledo, Ohio; one son Douglas Svendsen of Alta; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one brother Alex Borresen of Mankato, Minn.

Funeral services for Mrs. Svendsen will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta with Pastor Mark Youngquist and Pastor Newell Nelson officiating.

Visitation will be held this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta. The family will also be present at that time.

Burial will be in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta. The Barker Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta.
