Joyce Kischer - Dec. 10, 1923 - Apr. 30, 2010
Joyce Kischer, age 86, of Albert City, Iowa, died April 30, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa, ending her 19 year battle with multiple myeloma.
Joyce Uldene Wessman, the daughter of Carl and Hulda (Dahlberg) Wessman, was born in Marathon, Iowa, on December 10, 1923. Joyce lived her youth and received her education in Marathon where she was a 1942 graduate of the Marathon Consolidated School.
On August 30, 1947, Joyce was united in marriage to Romaine Kischer in Jackson, Minnesota, and this couple was blessed with five children: Craig, Dawn, Jill, Lex, and Kim. Following their marriage, Joyce and Romaine lived in Storm Lake for a few years while Romaine attended Buena Vista College. Romaine and Joyce began their farming vocation in the Albert City area. They were engaged in farming for over 50 years and Joyce was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed making a home for their family. Joyce loved her family very dearly and was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Joyce accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a teenager and continued to serve Him her entire life. She was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Albert City where she participated in the Women’s Missionary Society, the White Cross, and was a teacher for the Cubbies children’s ministry at the church. Throughout her lifetime she had also been a Sunday School teacher and shared her faith with many children.
Joyce’s life and memories will always be honored and cherished by her husband, Romaine of Albert City, Iowa; her children: Dawn and Steven Erickson of Golden, Colorado; Jill and Bruce Engelmann of Storm Lake, Iowa; Lex Safin of Allegan, Michigan; Kim and Jill Kischer of Albert City, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Becky Holmes of Atlantic, Iowa; her grandchildren: Bryant (Jill) Engelmann; Jennifer (Nathan) Dwyer; Barry (Melinda) Engelmann; Kristin (Mike) Driscoll; Brooke (Chris) McConn; Crista (Jordan) VanWyk; Trent and Chad Kischer; her great grandchildren: Trey and Brielle Engelmann; Mitchell and Logan Driscoll; Violet and Havilah McConn; and Eliana Engelmann; her sister and husband; Lois and Roger Fairchild of Spencer, Iowa; other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Craig; an infant sister, Ida; her sister, Leola Jenkinson; and her brother, Lowell Wessman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 2, 2010, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present the entire time. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
May the faith and testimony of Joyce’s life continue to glorify her Lord and influence her family and all who knew her.
