Violet Peterson - Aug. 18, 1916 - Jan. 21, 2001

Violet Peterson, 84, of Aurelia, formerly of Alta, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia.

Violet, the daughter of Gustaf and Anna (Larson) Johanson, was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Unityville, S.D. She attended a one room school through the eighth grade and finished her high school education at Salem High School in Salem, S.D.

On March 7, 1941, she married David E. Peterson at the home of her parents. She and her husband farmed in several different locations in Buena Vista County north of Alta. After leaving the farm, she worked for Dr. Morris and Dr. Jones in Storm Lake. She entered Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia in April of 1997.

Mrs. Peterson was a long time active member of Center Grove Free Church in Alta and was currently a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 28, 1963; twin sisters: Evelyn Englekes and Roselyn Pedersen and one great-granddaughter Hope Peterson.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by three sons and their wives: Wayne D. and Nancy Peterson, Ronald G. and Ann Peterson, all of Sioux City, and Virgil and Gretchen Peterson of Dunlap; one daughter Dianna and her husband Dennis Youngquist of Kiron; one sister Cecelia and her husband Ralph Gerry of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two brothers: Carol and Mabel Johanson of Sun City, Ariz., and Waldo and Jean Johanson of Canova, S.D.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Peterson were held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Pastor Jim Hofman officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Burial was in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Barker Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
