R. Marie Wetzel, 61, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Rosita Marie, the daughter of Wendell and Mabel (Bissell) Mathes, was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Union County near Afton. She attended Sand Creek country school and Arispe schools. In 1958, she graduated from Murray High School.
On June 1, 1958, she was united in marriage to Dale E. Wetzel at United Methodist Church in Murray. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Osceola until moving to Storm Lake in 1962.
Mrs. Wetzel was a long time member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church where she served as church secretary for several years. She enjoyed genealogy and photography and was a talented sketch artist. She also loved music and played the guitar.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Wetzel is survived by her husband Dale of Storm Lake; twin daughters: Jackie and Dale Vogl of Normal, Ill., and Debra and Bruce Young of LeMars; six grandchildren; one sister Shirley Deatsch and her husband John of Spring Valley, Minn.; one brother Roland Mathes and his wife Karen of Murray; extended family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wetzel were held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Rev. Kenneth Bell and Rev. Duane Queen officiated at the 11 a.m. service.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Murray Cemetery in Murray. Rev. John Tunnicliff of the Murray United Methodist Church will officiate the graveside services.
