Margaret Carpenter, 79, of Storm Lake, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Margaret Rose, the daughter of John Frederick and Dorthea (Jensen) Erbs, was born March 28, 1921, in Spencer. She attended country schools near Dickens and graduated from Lake Center in 1938. She also attended and graduated from Sioux City Academy of Beauty Coiffure in 1941.

On Oct. 18, 1944, she was united in marriage to Donald E. Carpenter in Worthington, Minn. She worked as a beautician at various shops and also out of her home. She enjoyed spending time at the Lakes, enjoying her family and friends, gardening, and watching and feeding birds. She was always there for anyone in need and put other people's needs before her own.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta and the Alta VFW, Post Number 6172.

Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters: Dagney Marie Erbs and Madeline Johnson and twin infant siblings.

She is survived by her two sons: Dan and his wife Fran Carpenter of Sioux City and Jeff Carpenter of Storm Lake; two daughters: Cindy Krause and Cheryl and her husband Delbert Winterhof, all of Aurelia; one sister Dorothy Strawn of Spencer; seven grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carpenter were held Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Barker Funeral Home in Alta. Pastor Connie Spitzack officiated at the 11 a.m. service.

Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Barker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
