Luella Smith - Apr. 1, 1925 - July 30, 2008

Luella Smith, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at her home in Storm Lake.

Luella Mae Dick was born April 1, 1925, at Schaller, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Dick. Luella graduated from Schaller High School in 1942. She married Donald Brown in 1944 and resided on a farm northeast of Schaller. Donald passed away in 1972. She married William (Bill) Smith in 1979 and resided on a farm east of Nemaha. In 1983, Bill and Luella moved to a house on Storm Lake.

Luella was a lively, involved, social person. She loved to dance, play cards, visit, sew, crochet, quilt, and cook. She was always up to date on world and religious events. She enjoyed traveling as well as visiting friends and relatives. She was a long time 4-H leader and was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller and later of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bill; her children and their spouses: Pamela Brown, wife of Robert “Bob” Brown (deceased), of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mary Jean Keating and husband Mike of Big Rapids, Michigan; Jim Brown and wife Katie of Oto, Iowa; Kay Boisen and husband Lee of Des Moines, Iowa; Tom Brown and wife Mary of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; Barb Davis and husband Tom of Dubuque, Iowa; step-children: Sandy Hurd and husband Jerry of Alta, Iowa; Lynn Smith and wife Joy of Nemaha, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Dick and wife Kathryn of Schaller, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mary (Dick) Norris of Lacey, Washington; extended family and many friends.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Linus Dick; her first husband, Donald Brown; and her son, Robert “Bob” Brown.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held Monday, August 4, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Monsignor Roger Augustine, Reverend Bruce Lawler and Reverend Jim Smith will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa, under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 3rd, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present. The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m., both also at the funeral home.
