Mr. Christensen passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, in Sioux City.
Calvin C. Christensen, the son of Alfred G. and Thelma (Stevens) Christensen was born on July 21, 1925, at Cherokee. He was baptized on April 8, 1928, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. He grew up in both the Cherokee and Peterson areas and attended high school in Peterson.
He served his country during World War II in the 93rd Bomb Squadron. He entered the service on April 7, 1944, and was honorably discharged on April 23, 1946, receiving the rank of S SGT.
On June 4, 1948, he was united in marriage to Erma L. Kracht at St. John's UCC Church in rural Peterson where he was a long time member.
Mr. Christensen was a livestock buyer for the Storm Lake packing plant for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Robert Darrell Christensen and Darwin Dean Christensen; one brother Roger Christensen; his step-mother Frieda Christensen and one nephew Roger Christensen, Jr.
Mr. Christensen is survived by his wife Erma of Storm Lake; one son Calvin D. and his wife Becky Christensen of Sioux City; two daughters: Candace and her husband Marty Mason of Riverton, Wy., and Cheryl and her husband Bill Struve of Highland Village, Texas; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Calvin C. Christensen, 75, of Storm Lake, will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John's UCC Church in rural Peterson, with Rev. Charles Hall officiating.
Burial will be at St. John's UCC Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rodney Brown, Mark Reed, Ron French, Jim Kracht, Kevin Saunders and Kyle Eichhorn. Honorary pallbearers are John Dumkrieger, Roy Clough, Ray Schaeuble, Larry Germann, Don Brisbois, Claude Thompson and Roy Moore. Sliefert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
