Mrs. Wesselink passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, in Storm Lake.

LaVina was born March 9, 1914, in Ringsted, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George T. Haahr. At the age of eight, the family moved to Cedar Falls where she attended grade school and high school. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College for four years, receiving a B.S. degree in 1935. She was a member of Theta Alpha Phi and many other organizations.

Mrs. Wesselink taught school in Ruthland, Marathon, and Webster City.

On June 27, 1940, she married William D. Wesselink at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

The couple moved to Storm Lake in 1946. In 1947 they became associated with Buena Vista College, retiring in 1976 after 30 years.

Mrs. Wesselink was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was chairman of circles and president of WSCS. She served on the board of trustees for three terms in addition to the building committee. She founded the Methodist Manor Guild. A den mother, she was active in Girl Scouts. She belonged to the Faculty Dames, the Kiwanis Kweens, the Cosmopolitan Club, P.E.O. and several bridge and sewing clubs.

Mrs. Wesselink was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William in 1989.

She is survived by two sons: David Wesselink and his wife Linda of Northbrook, Ill., and Fred Wesselink of Jamestown, Calif.; one daughter Dianna Mason and her husband William of Storm Lake; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother Kenneth Haahr and his wife of Santa Maria, Calif.; one sister-in-law Verilyn of Fargo, N.D. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for LaVina Wesselink, 86, of Storm Lake, were held Monday, Sept. 25, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Rev. Kenneth Bell officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Casketbearers were Willie Epting, Jeff Emerson, A.J. Hanafin, Robert Engel, Arden Jorgensen and Al Baxter. Honorary bearers were Stan Haahr, Clint Horlacher, Warren Gregg, Al Lewis, Maynard Thompson and Gary Sliefert.

Burial was at Storm Lake Cemetery. Sliefert Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Wesselink Scholarship in the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake or the Wesselink Scholarship at Buena Vista University.
