Mrs. Petersen died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Manning Regional Health Center in Manning following a brief illness.
Olivia Marie, daughter of Lars and Madsine (Christiansen) Christensen, was born June 28, 1905, in Aalborg, Denmark. At the age of 10, the family moved to the United States and settled near Fiscus where she attended country school. Following her education, she worked as a housekeeper for neighbors and friends.
On Feb. 7, 1923, she married Carl Petersen in Audubon. The couple farmed near Audubon until moving to Manning in 1933. In 1955 they moved to Storm Lake where she worked as a school cook. Mr. and Mrs. Petersen retired in 1966 and in 1967 moved to Lake View. Shortly after her husband's death, she moved to Manning in 1973. She lived on her own until June of 1999 when she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
Mrs. Petersen was a member of the Manning United Methodist Church, participating with the United Methodist Women. She was a Congregate Meals volunteer and a member of the Pasttime Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; two sons: Ernest Petersen and Donald Petersen; two grandsons; three brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Petersen is survived by one daughter Elaine and her husband Harold Reinke of Manning; one son Carl Petersen, Jr. and his wife Mary of Storm Lake; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Olivia Petersen, 95, of Manning, formerly of Storm Lake, were held Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at the United Methodist Church in Manning. Rev. Larry McAlpine officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Burial was at Buena Vista Memorial Park in Storm Lake. Casketbearers were Duane Reinke, Dale Reinke, Jerry Petersen, Adam Reinke, Scott Segebart and Eric Reisselman. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
