Gerald Huseman - Jan. 22, 1933 - Sept. 24, 2000

Mr. Huseman passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Gerald Dean Huseman, the son of Louis and Ella (Oatman) Huseman, was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Alta.

He was raised in the Hanover/Alta area. He attended school and graduated from Alta High School with the Class of 1951.

On Aug. 4, 1953, he entered the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman until his honorable discharge on June 11, 1955.

On Feb. 13, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Hunter in Storm Lake.

Mr. Huseman was a long distance truck driver and a chief steward foreman at Wilson and Co. Packing Plant in Cherokee. He then sold insurance for New York Life. In January of 1976, he bought the Hobbs and Murphy Excavating Business and served the surrounding communities as Huseman Excavating until his son, Daniel, bought the business.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn brother and one brother Marlin.

Mr. Huseman is survived by his wife Marilyn; two daughters: Rebecca and her husband Greg Brandt of Brooklyn Park, Minn. and Rhonda and her husband Randy Brisbois of LaSalle, Ill.; one son Daniel and his wife Jane of Alta; eight grandchildren; two sisters: Maurine Hutton of Mesa, Ariz., and her husband Ross Hutton of Madrid, and Shirley and her husband Carroll Johnson of Alta; two brothers: Norman and his wife Fay Huseman of Spirit Lake and Kent Huseman of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister-in-law Kathy Huseman, Tulsa, Okla., and former sister-in-law Norma Huseman of Anchorage, Alaska; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Gerald "Jerry" Huseman, 67, of Alta, were held Wednesday, Sept. 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Pastor Kevin Huss officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 6172 of Alta. Barker Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
