James Hildreth - Oct. 7, 1926 - Oct. 25, 2008

James Hildreth, age 82, of Alta, Iowa, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, October 25, 2008, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

James W. Hildreth was born October 7, 1926, the son of Chris and Adena B. (Barkmeier) Hildreth in Lohrville, Iowa. He received his education in the Lohrville School system.

On January 9, 1945, James entered into service to his country in the United States Marine Corp at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He served in the following Theaters of Operation: Pearl Harbor, Guam and Occupation of China before being honorably discharged on October 22, 1946.

On February 16, 1947, James was united in marriage to Vivian Hayes at the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: Ron, Cal, Jeff, Lori and Scott.

James was baptized and confirmed at Rinard Methodist Church. He was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church.

Over the years, James worked as a blacksmith. He was a member of the Truesdale Fire Department and the Alta V.F.W. He loved horses and farm livestock and took pride in raising hogs. In addition, James was a great handyman and welder. Above all, he loved his family and cherished the time they spent together.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Vivian Hildreth of Alta; his children: Ron J. (Karolyn) Hildreth of Alta; Cal W. (Cindy) Hildreth of Alta; Lori A. (Allan) Nordine of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Scott J. (Joanna) Hildreth of Jewell, Iowa; grandchildren: Shaun Hildreth, Sonya Stimetz, Heather Hildreth, Erin Molgaard, Casey Hildreth, Brandon, Kyle and Megan Nordine, Jamie and Kelsey Hildreth; great grandchildren: Tori Stimetz and Jayden Hildreth-Hartman; two brothers, Chet (Eleanor) Hildreth of Arizona and Boyd Hildreth of California; two sisters: Marlene (Ted) Stacy of Rockwell City, Iowa, and Pauline Carlson of Gowrie, Iowa; and other extended family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeff.

Funeral services for Mr. Hildreth were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the Alta United Methodist Church. A time of visitation was held at the church for one hour prior to the start of services. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
