LaVonne Luhman - Mar. 6, 1941 - Oct. 24, 2008

LaVonne Luhman, age 67, of Aurelia, Iowa, formerly of Newell, Iowa, died October 24, 2008, at her home in Aurelia.

LaVonne Marie Stueve was born March 6, 1941, the daughter of Gilbert “Sib” and Gwendolyn (Hoyt) Stueve on a farm in Pottawattomie County, Iowa. She attended school in Lake Center and Graettinger.

On December 20, 1958, LaVonne was united in marriage to Fred Luhman at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. They were blessed with three children: Richard Lee, Loretta D. and Gary Dean. The family moved from Graettinger to rural Newell in 1965.

LaVonne was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nemaha where she served as a Communion Coordinator.

LaVonne loved to dance, especially country dancing and line dancing. She adored her flowers and delighted in landscaping. Family was the most important thing to LaVonne. She loved her family dearly and wanted the best for all of them. Additionally, LaVonne would share “feel good” notes and quotations with her family. She treasured the time she spent with them and will be missed greatly.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Fred Luhman of Aurelia, Iowa; her children: Rick Luhman of St. Louis, Missouri; Lori Luhman of Sac City, Iowa; Gary Luhman and his wife Caroline of Cherokee, Iowa; grandchildren: Eric, Beth and Trevor Luhman of St. Louis, Missouri; Tracy Coombs of Cherokee, Iowa; Justin Coombs of Cherokee, Iowa; and Tab Elizabeth Ann Luhman of Cherokee, Iowa; her father, Gilbert “Sib” Stueve and his wife, Joanne; one sister, Vickie (Bob) Rooney of Armstrong, Iowa; step-brothers: David (Diana) Kinnetz of Estherville; Iowa, Denny (Lynn) Kinnetz of St. James, Minnesota; and Mark (Tammy) Kinnetz of Armstrong, Iowa; step-sisters: Penny (Spencer Masse) Lee of Spencer, Iowa; and Lori Mortenson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; brother-in-law: Roy (Gerda) Luhman of Graettinger; sisters-in-law: Marvis (Richard) Duus and Ina Mae (Bill) Voigt, all of Graettinger; other extended family and friends.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her mother, Gwendolyn; and her sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Bill Hewett.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the Nemaha United Methodist Church. Visitation was held from 5-8:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2008, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell where the family was present to greet friends. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell was in charge of the arrangements.
