Herbert Rasmussen
April 06, 1928 - April 12, 2010Storm Lake, Iowa
Herbert Rasmussen, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died April 12, 2010, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Herbert Dale Rasmussen, son of Neils and Roseale (Leopold) Rasmussen was born April 6, 1928, in Cherokee, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Cherokee Lutheran Church. Herb attended Cherokee County rural schools for his elementary education and graduated in 1947 from Aurelia High School.
Herb was employed, and then in 1951 he joined the United States Army. While in the United States Army, he trained at Fort Riley and Fort Sam Houston. Herb served as a medic in the Korean War and was awarded many metals of honor. Herb was honorably discharged in December of 1952 and then attended Chillicothe Business College for one year in Missouri.
On July 16, 1955, Herb was united in marriage to Patricia Keller at the Lutheran Church in Aurelia, Iowa. Together they were blessed with three daughters: Lori, Lisa and Stacey.
Herb was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa, a member of the Elk’s Lodge, the VWF and American Legion Post. Farming was a huge part of Herb’s life. He especially enjoyed tending his cattle/calf herd. Herb had a strong work ethic. The family made many memories while helping Herb put in and take out the crops, bale hay, and walk beans where there was always time for “just one more round” before dinner!! Herb’s family cherishes some of his favorite one-liners, “SAVE”, “BEHAVE”, and “Where’s Patsy Big-Deal?”
Herb and Pat enjoyed spending many winters in Texas. There, they spent time dancing at Pepe’s, socializing with friends, and volunteering at local schools. They enjoyed retirement in Storm Lake, boating on the lake and relaxing at their home.
In his final two years, he resided at the Buena Vista Manor where he developed an extended family with the staff. We are very thankful to them for their genuine care and compassion.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pat, of Storm Lake; his daughters: Lori Droegmiller of Dakota Dunes; Lisa and her husband Steve Hathaway of Kingsley; Stacey and her husband Roger Tiefenthaler of Early, his grandchildren: Adam Droegmiller and Abby Droegmiller; Christina Macklem; Nicholas Morgan; Adam, Sarah, Laura, Michael, David and Anna Tiefenthaler; 10 great-grandchildren; his cousin, Fritz and wife Rita Rasmussen of Denmark; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Robert Carl Rasmussen, and his uncle, Chris Rasmussen
