Boyd V. Cammack - June 4, 1927 - Feb. 5, 2007

Boyd V. Cammack, 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died February 5, 2007, in the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Born June 4, 1927, in Arco, Minnesota, Boyd was the son of Errol and Clara Barber Cammack. He married Dorothy Jean DeSart on June 5, 1949. He completed his junior and senior years together at Lake City (Iowa) High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was assigned to the naval base at Sister Bay in the Aleutian Islands.

After the war he continued his education, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Buena Vista College and his Masters degree in guidance counseling from Iowa State University. Boyd was employed by the Storm Lake school system for 36 years as mathematics teacher and guidance counselor for thousands of Storm Lake High School students before retiring 1989. Boyd-the-painter spent summers painting houses for many people who knew of his knowledge and passion to do the job right.

As a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Storm Lake, Boyd lived a life of significance in serving God and others. Boyd was involved in Dollars For Scholars and Habitat For Humanity besides being a charter member of the Helpers and Planners for Parent and Youth (HAPPY).

Family was very important to Boyd, and he deeply loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; four daughters, Christine (Creston) Harris of Estero, Florida, Kathleen (Tony) Faine of Cedar Rapids, Carla (Russell) Porter of Des Moines, Karen (Scott) Stiles of Fort Dodge; and ten grandchildren David, Amanda, and Doyle (Harris), Brett, and Jeffrey (Faine), Benjamin, Brandon, and Blake (Porter), Matthew and Jennifer (Stiles).

Boyd was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Ray Cammack and Ralph Cammack; and two sisters, Edna Peters and Iola Daggett.

Memorial Services for Mr. Cammack will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery with Full Military Rites presented by the Alta VFW. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church and Dollars for Scholars.
