Verner E. Movall - May 17, 1923 - Feb. 24, 2007

Verner E. Movall, age 83, of Schaller, Iowa, died Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Verner was born May 17, 1923, to Per Edward and Justina (Johnson) Movall in Buena Vista County near Storm Lake, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. He attended school at the Hayes country school and graduated from Hayes High School in 1940.

On December 10, 1944, Verner was united in marriage to Arlene E. Grotjohn at her parents’ farm in Sac County. The couple was blessed with three sons: Russell, Loren, and Jay. Verner was called to the service of his country during World War II. He entered the United States Army in March of 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Upon his return to Sac County, he and Arlene resumed their life together, raising their family on the Sac County farm near Schaller where they lived. Verner farmed until his retirement in 1986. Verner and Arlene spent many happy years together and would have been married 63 years this coming December.

An active member of the Schaller community, Verner served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Schaller Elevator board and the Sac County Extension Council. He was a DeKalb seed dealer for 17 years.

Verner loved his Lord and gladly served Him as a member of Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in rural Schaller. He was an elder, deacon and president of the congregation at different times as well as serving wherever he was needed over the years.

Verner was an avid baseball fan and Minnesota Twins supporter. He liked to combine his love of baseball with his love of travel. He took several bus tours to watch the Twins play. The rest of the time he was happy to watch the ball games on television. He and Arlene also enjoyed a number of bus tours of various states. Verner liked to play bridge, but enjoyed getting together with friends to play just about any kind of card game. He also enjoyed his daily ritual of joining his friends downtown for coffee.

A loving husband and devoted father, Verner’s first priority was always his family. In his later years, he thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wisdom and guidance were always appreciated, and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Arlene of Schaller; son Russell Movall of Sioux City, Iowa; son Loren (Terry) Movall of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Alan (Jennifer) Movall of Schaller; Jackie (Cory) Schubert of Tacoma, Washington; Mark (Heidi) Movall of Schaller; Molly (Daniel) Jansen of Urbandale, Iowa; great-grandchildren Alex and Grant Movall; brother Clarence (Wanette) Movall of Alta; sisters Ruby Danielson of Storm Lake and Gladys (Don) Heinecke of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; sisters-in-law Lois Movall and Barbara Movall, both of Storm Lake; sister- and brother-in-law Dorothea and Harrison Saathoff of Storm Lake; extended family and a host of friends.

Preceding Verner in death were his parents; infant son Jay; sisters and their husbands, Mildred (Alvin) Peterson and Dorothy (Herbert) Anderson; and his brothers, Frank and Raymond.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at the Presbyterian Church in Schaller. Burial will follow at the Immanuel Reformed Cemetery in rural Schaller where the Schaller V.F.W. will present the flag.
