Dale E. Miller - May 17, 1943 - Mar. 21, 2007

Dale E. Miller, age 63, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on March 21, 2007, at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dale Edward Miller was born in Storm Lake on May 17, 1943, to Vernon and Margaret (Weitzel) Miller, the second of seven children. He was baptized on September 12, 1943, by Father Leo Harpenau and his God Parents were Paul and Marge Larkin. In 1951, his family moved to the farm northwest of Newell near the ‘Coon River where he grew up. He made his First Holy Communion and was confirmed in 1954. Dale attended schools in Storm Lake and Sulphur Springs and graduated from Newell Providence in 1962. He served in the United States Army from 1964-1966, and he was a member of the Alta VFW.

Dale was married to Jean Eccher on June 1, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1970, they purchased an acreage outside of Storm Lake and built their home in 1973. They have three children: Brian, Jon and Amy; Julie, a daughter-in-law; and two grandchildren, Keegan and Kennadie.

Dale was a long-term employee of HyGrade Food Products, Melanders Appliance, and Anderson Brass before retiring and doing carpentry work.

He found much enjoyment in John Deere antique tractors, fishing, hunting, playing Mexican dominoes, bowling and eating peanut M&Ms. He was active in Pheasants Forever, Buena Vista Gun Club and Knights of Columbus. He had just established a wildlife preservation plot of native grasses and flowers.

Survivors include his wife Jean Miller; his children: Brian (Julie) Miller of Storm Lake, Jon (Rachel Evans) Miller of Newell, Iowa, and Amy (Ryan Orr) Miller of Davenport, Iowa; two grandchildren: Keegan and Kennadie Miller; four brothers: Duane (Deb) Miller of Fenton, Missouri, Daryl (Kay Propst) Miller of Hamilton, Montana, Dennis (Renee) Miller of Boise, Idaho, Dave (Linda) Miller of Storm Lake; two sisters: Norma (LaDon) Bernhardt of Florissant, Missouri, and Janice (Paul) Heide of Storm Lake; numerous nieces and nephews: Lisa Bernhardt, Paul (Kathy) Bernhardt, John (Julie) Bernhardt, Alan Bernhardt, Scott (Barb) Larson, Todd (Trish) Larson, Brenda (Todd) Schwarz, Dawn (Jesse Sanchez) Miller, Derek (Chrissy) Miller, Danielle (Antonio Diggs) Miller, Melissa (Andy) Cave Orr, Corey (Jennifer) Miller, Chris Miller, Cami Jo Miller, Breanna Monroe, Devin Miller, Maleia Miller, Julie (Dennis) Mance, Joe (Kim) Gumpinger, Joan (Don) Dummer, Melissa, Jae, Kimberly, and Michelle Eccher, their families, and a host of others proud to call him friend.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Margaret (Weitzel) Miller.

Funeral Services for Mr. Miller will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Father Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass for Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery where Storm Lake AMVETS Post 66 will conduct full military rites. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where family will be present from 5-8:00 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary, all at the funeral home.
