Marvin L. Youngdahl - Mar. 12, 1939 - Mar. 25, 2007

Marvin L. Youngdahl, age 68, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Marvin Lee Youngdahl was born March 12, 1939, in Storm Lake to Carol and Aletha (Ausborn) Youngdahl. He was baptized as an infant in St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and later confirmed his faith in the same church in 1952. He received his education in the Storm Lake Community School, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1957. He then continued his education at Commercial Extension.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army, entering in November 1961, and he was honorably discharged in November 1963.

On July 10, 1964, Marvin was united in marriage to Marlys Watts in the Rembrandt Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with four children: Brenda, Lyle, Tim and Sheila.

Marvin was an independent businessman, the owner of M-Y Supply, Inc. in Storm Lake for many years before his retirement in 2005. He was a lifelong, faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where he had served as trustee and money counter over the years. Marvin was a long-time member of the Storm Lake Fire Department, AmVets Post 66 in Storm Lake, V.F. W. Post 6172 in Alta, the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors, the National Fire Protection Association and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Marvin enjoyed being with people and knew few strangers—most quickly became his friends. He enjoyed camping, playing golf and was always ready for a good game of cards. Above all, Marvin loved his family and treasured the time he spent with his wife and children. In his later years, his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marlys of Storm Lake; daughter Brenda (Keith) Miller of Spencer, Iowa; son Lyle Youngdahl of Vermillion, South Dakota; son Tim (Jane) Youngdahl of Spencer, Iowa; daughter Sheila Youngdahl of Estherville, Iowa; grandchildren Keith Youngdahl, Abby, Kari and Cris Miller, Andee and Ian Youngdahl; sister Carolyn (Ralph) Reiling of Rembrandt, Iowa, extended family and a host of friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Aletha Youngdahl.

Funeral Services for Mr. Youngdahl will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake where full military rites will be conducted by AMVETS Post #66. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.
