Muriel L. Allen - Jan. 12, 1928 - May 28, 2007
Muriel L. Allen, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Muriel Louise Fliss was born January 12, 1928, in Milford, Iowa to Floyd and Myrtle (Case) Fliss. She attended grade school in a local country school, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1946.
On August 10, 1949, Muriel was united in marriage to Gale Allen in Arnolds Park, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children: Francine and Laurie. Over the years, Muriel worked as a photo technician and for the newspaper. Her greatest joy was making a warm & comfortable home for her family.
Muriel was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church where she was active with the church circle. In addition, she was a member of the Historical Society of Buena Vista County and the Keystone Book Club. In her spare time, Muriel enjoyed camping, taking bus tours, reading, doing handy-work and quilting. She also volunteered for the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Buena Vista Manor and the Buena Vista Historical Society.
Her greatest joy came from the time Muriel spent with her family. She truly cherished and deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They in turn will miss her presence daily.
Survivors include her two daughters: Francine Lundberg and her husband Arlin of Marathon, Iowa, and Laurie Allen of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Amy Langner of Des Moines, Iowa, and Eric Langner and his wife Jami of Alta, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Courtney, Christopher and Corrine Langner; one brother, Verlyn Fliss of Belmond, Iowa; two sisters: Lois Wichman and her husband Ralph of Hartley, Iowa, and Charlotte Thorne and her husband Hap of Everly, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Lois Fliss of Spencer, Iowa; brother-in-law Henry Mertens of Blue Earth, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and cousins; extended family and many friends.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gale; her brother, Virgil Fliss; and her sister, Marjorie Mertens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
