Donald H. Hussey - Dec. 27, 1920 - May 21, 2007
Donald Hussey, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Donald Heikens Hussey was born December 27, 1920, in Storm Lake to Fred and Eva (Heikens) Hussey. He was raised in the Storm Lake area and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1938. On September 19, 1942, Donald was married to Virginia Burkhart in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Richard and Patricia. Donald served his country as a pilot during World War II in the United States Army.
After the war, Don worked for Peterson Motors dealership in Cherokee, Iowa. He moved his family back to Storm Lake in 1956 where he operated Huss’s DX station and then Don Hussey Trucking. Following his retirement, Don and Virginia drove truck for Agrischools and for Fitzpatrick’s in Storm Lake. He loved to be on the road and travel. He and Virginia thoroughly enjoyed camping and were founding members of the Stormy Water Rollers Good Sam Camping Club. Don also enjoyed membership in the Masons, Order of Eastern Star and Oddfellows Lodge. He was a faithful Bingo player.
Of all the activities that Don enjoyed, he most loved his family and following his grandchildren and their activities. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be missed dearly.
Left to cherish Don’s memory are his daughter, Pat (Dennis) Fisher of Lakeside, Iowa; his daughter-in-law, Donna Hussey of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Kris (Matt) Pearson of Storm Lake; Kim Hussey of Storm Lake; Steve (Amber) Hussey of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Brian Fisher of Grimes, Iowa; Matt (Amanda) Fisher of Newell, Iowa; and Mel Fisher of Lakeside; great-grandchild Kile Hussey of Sioux Rapids; two brothers: Richard (Carol) Hussey of Storm Lake and Douglas (Marge) Hussey of Ida Grove, Iowa; extended family and many friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; his son, Dick; his grandson, Gregory Ryan Fisher; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Ray) PeCoy and Maxine (Ken) Woodward; and an infant brother, Freddie.
Funeral service for Mr. Hussey will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake with full military rites performed by Alta VFW Post 6192. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
A visitation will be held for one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Friday.
