Carla A. Jespersen - Apr. 21, 1911 - June 1, 2007

Carla Jespersen, age 96, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, June 1, 2007, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Carla Alfreda Jespersen was born April 21, 1911, in Royal, Iowa, the daughter of Iver and Rosa Jespersen. She was baptized as an infant at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal and later confirmed her faith at that same church.

She received her education in Royal. After graduating from high school, Carla continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and later at Northern Colorado in Greeley, graduating with her Bachelors degree in 1931. She later earned a masters degree at Northern Colorado. Carla taught school for 43 years, the last 29 years at Storm Lake.

Carla was a faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake for many years where she held the office of Treasurer. She was also a member of the Delphian Club and of Delta Kappa Gamma. For relaxation, Carla enjoyed painting and gardening. She also liked to travel.

Among those left to cherish her memory are six nieces: Susan Brown, Shirley Mattfeld-Sarbaugh and husband Jim, Ruth Gillen and husband John, Julie Smith and husband Vernon, Amy Smoker and husband Jay and Beverly Goertzen and husband Rollie; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; two brothers-in-law: Ed Dirksen and Harold “Matt” Mattfeld; extended family and many friends.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents; and her three sisters: Elma Mattfeld, Lola and her husband Julius Von Glan, and Gladys Dirksen.

Funeral Services Ms. Jespersen will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Willow Creek Cemetery at Royal. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.
