Warren H. Peters - Jan. 28, 1922 - June 9, 2007
Warren H. Peters, age 85, of Newell, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2007, in Plymouth, Wisconsin, while visiting in the home of his niece.
Warren was born January 28, 1922, on the family farm in Glidden, Iowa, the son of Jans and Elizebeth Peters. He was the 19th child in a family of 20 children. Warren was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Grant Township in Glidden. He worked on the family farm until entering the Merchant Marines and served his country from 1943 to 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Warren and Elvira Mae (Helmbrecht) were united in marriage at the Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton, Iowa, on May 23, 1954. They were blessed with a son Marc who passed away in infancy and three daughters, Jean, Judy and Jayne.
After his military service, Warren returned home and worked in the Glidden creamery for eleven years. He then farmed in Sac County from 1957 to 1989. They moved to Newell in 1991.
Warren was a member of the Emanuel St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton and since moving to Newell also attended the First Congregational Church in Newell. He was a life time member of the Newell Legion and Sac City V.F.W.
Warren loved being with and around people. He enjoyed dancing, especially to polka music, and he taught his girls to polka while milking cows. Other activities he enjoyed were fishing, playing cards, playing bingo, gardening and following Newell-Fonda sporting events. Family was very important to him and he dearly enjoyed the annual family reunions and any gathering of friends and family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Elvira; his children: Jean Elizabeth Sarchet and husband Roger of Newell, Judy Kay Carlton and husband Doug of Newell and Jayne Ann Schumann and husband Dale of Albert City. He is survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. They include Robert Sarchet of Polk City and friend Laura New, Jason and Sarah Sarchet of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and Luke Sarchet of Newell, Christopher Carlton and Libby Hysell and great-granddaughter, Ellie Joell Carlton of Grimes, Corey Carlton of Burke, South Dakota, and friend Molly Luchtel, and Jennifer Schumann and Nathan Schumann of Albert City. His last living sibling is his sister, Lillian Braden of Glidden along with many extended relatives and family.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Jans and Elizebeth Peters, his son Marc and eleven brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Emanuel St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton with Pastors Wayne Pfannkuch and Greg Baskerville officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery inear Lytton with presentation of the flag by the V.F.W. Post No. 590 and the American Legion Cantigny Post No. 195 of Sac City. Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell from 4 to 8 on Monday.
