Leota Neppl - Feb. 3, 1917 - June 18, 2007
Leota Neppl, age 90, of Storm Lake and formerly of Fonda, Iowa, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.
Leota was born February 3, 1917, in Mt. Carmel, Iowa, the daughter of Henry J. and Anna (Goecke) Otto. She was baptized as an infant in the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and later confirmed her faith as a youth at the same church. She attended grade school at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School before graduating from Carroll High School in 1934. She continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and received her teaching certificate to teach Rural School (Normal Training Degree). She taught rural school for the next three years.
On May 24, 1938, Leota was united in holy matrimony to Everett Neppl at her church in Mt. Carmel. The couple was blessed with five children. They lived and farmed in Carroll County for 12 years and in the Fonda area for 30 years. After retiring in 1980, Everett and Leota moved to Storm Lake. They enjoyed traveling until Everett’s health declined.
Leota was a loving and devoted wife and mother who cherished her family. She was a faithful Catholic and lived her life to reflect her faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a past member of the Holy Family Society, and a “praying” member of the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed playing cards, walking and reading.
Survivors include her two sons: James Neppl and wife Diane of Rock Island, Illinois; and Roger Neppl and wife Jennifer of Evergreen, Colorado; her two daughters: Kay Sterbick of Des Moines, Iowa; and Diane Baskerville and husband Roger of Washington, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other extended family and many friends.
Leota was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; her son, Gary; her twin brother, Leo; her brother, Art; and her sisters: Loretta, Marie, Agnes and Bernadette.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Neppl will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fonda. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Friday anytime after 5:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. followed by recitation of the Legion of Mary Rosary at 7:00, both at the funeral home.
