Norman J. Kolb - Nov. 3, 1921 - July 7, 2007

Norman J. Kolb, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Norman was born on November 3, 1921, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Henry P. and Martha (Dorsch) Kolb. He graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1940. He attended Iowa State University and later graduated from a floral design school in Chicago, Illinois.

During World War II, Norman served his country in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer in Germany.

In 1944, Norman was united in marriage to Gilberta “Gibby” Edwards in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two daughters: Merrianne and Melinda.

Norman also owned and managed Storm Lake Floral and Greenhouse and took great pride in his work as a florist. He was a 60-year-member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Additionally, Norman was past president of the Storm Lake Rotary Club and the Iowa Florist Association.

His hobbies included flying his own plane, golf and fishing. Upon retirement, he and Gibby spent winters in Naples, Forida, enjoying the sun and walking the sandy white beaches of the Gulf. He loved spending time with his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Merrianne Siefer and her husband Dan of Storm Lake and Melinda Smart of San Antonio; grandchildren: Sheré Krusemark and her husband Matt, Dana Siefer, Natalie Siefer, Emily Boyd and her husband Matt, Jessica Siefer, Colin Smart and Hannah Smart; one great grandchild, Hayden Smart; and extended family and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gibby; brother, Robert Kolb; and son-in-law, Richard Smart.

Memorial Services for Mr. Kolb will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Pastor David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.
