Laura May Geisinger
Laura May Geisinger, age 73, died of cancer on Friday, March 19, 1999, at her rural Storm Lake home.
Laura May Qualls Hutchinson Geisinger was born in Wise County, VA, on February 22, 1926, to Andrew Mathison Qualls and Sephronia Hamilton Qualls. Sephronia died on March 20, 1926, with her funeral being held March 22. With 6 girls and 5 boys at home, Andrew found it difficult to care for a sick newborn so Laura May was adopted by her maternal aunt, Ida Hamilton Hutchinson and Rev. J.F. Hutchinson, who was the minister at the Methodist Church in Kingsley, IA.
Through the years the family lived in Spirit Lake, Storm Lake and Fort Dodge and returned to Storm Lake in the fall of 1938.Laura May graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1944 and from St Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, in 1947 with an R.N. Degree. Laura May worked for 22 years at the Buena Vista Country Hospital in the Obstetrics Department.
On April 18, 1948, she married Harold V. Geisinger in Storm Lake at the United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the church and her church circle. She was president of the Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary, Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #209 and belonged to Questers, Keystone reading Club, and Chapter EP of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She served as President of Iowa Sate Chapter of the P.E.O. from 1974-75. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, reading, playing bridge, and looking for antiques.
She is survivied by her husband, Harold; her daughter Susan Kay Geisinger, Storm Lake; two sons: Harold Vernon, II (Butch), and his wife Sally, Storm Lake, Donald Edward and his wife Deborah, Olathe, KS; Grandchildren: Amy,Chad, Darren and Diana; a sister Emily Qualls Pound, VA; a brother James Qualls, of Washington State and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family memebers and friends.
She was preceded in deather by her birth parents, her adoptive parents, four brothers and four sisters.
