Maxine Wicker, age 83, of Mason City, Iowa, died March 29, 2010, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Lois Maxine Cave Wicker was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, on March 15, 1927, the daughter of Earl and Lucile Cave. She had one older sister, Doris Lucile Cave. They attended schools in Storm Lake, Marathon, and Truesdale, Iowa, and graduated from the Truesdale High School.

After graduation in 1944, Maxine attended college in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and began teaching in the elementary school of Arthur, Iowa. At this time she met Frederick E. Wicker, who had just returned from World War II service in the navy. They were married in 1946 and made their home in Wall Lake, Iowa. They later lived in Delaware, Ohio, Sac City, Iowa, and Storm Lake.

Maxine graduated from Buena Vista College in 1978 with a degree in elementary education and library science. She served on the local board of the Storm Lake Public Library and on the board of the Northwest Regional Library. She was a member of the Buena Vista County Historical Society and the Witter Gallery Guild, and she was a Community Representative for Iowa Public Television. She was a member of American Association of University Women, encouraging women’s activities in education and politics. She would like to be remembered as a mother, teacher, and friend.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: David (Janet) Wicker of Manchester, Missouri; Linda (Bruce Ohrlund) Anderson of Rock Island, Illinois; Eileen Wicker of Plymouth, Minnesota; grandchildren: Nicole (Chris) Jennings of Columbus, Georgia; Matthew (Emily) Wicker of Saint Louis, Missouri; great grandchildren: Caroline, Samuel, and Thomas Jennings and Benjamin Wicker; extended family and friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lucile; her husband, Frederick Wicker; and her sister, Doris Wilson.

Graveside Service: 3:00 p.m. March 31, 2010, at Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
