A. Warren Anderson, age 85, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and formerly of Rembrandt, Iowa, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.

Arnwald Warren Anderson, the son of Carl and Victoria (Peterson) Anderson, was born at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on August 5, 1921. Warren was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church at Sioux Rapids. He lived his youth and received his education at Sioux Rapids, graduating at age 16 from the Sioux Rapids High School in 1938. Warren attended Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa, for two years and pursued courses in the engineering field. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, completing 35 combat missions as a B-17 tail gunner. Warren received three Bronze Battle Stars and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He enlisted into the service on August 14, 1942, at Des Moines, Iowa, and was honorably discharged on October 22, 1945, from Sheppard Field in Texas at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Warren was a member of the 3706th Army Air Force Base Unit.

Warren was united in marriage to Catherine Rystad on September 17, 1944, at Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. They were blessed with two children: Linda and Patricia. Throughout his lifetime, Warren had been employed as a plumber and electrician; and later he was a custodian at Rembrandt Consolidated School. Catherine died on March 9, 1994. Warren continued to reside in Rembrandt until becoming a resident of the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, in February, 2004.

Warren had a very caring and generous spirit and not only loved, cared, and provided for his immediate family but also offered his compassion and generosity to extended family members. He simply enjoyed doing things for people. Warren loved his family and his community very deeply and took great pride in both of them. Warren was an excellent conversationalist, possessing a great wit and natural sense of humor, who enjoyed engaging people in discussions revolving around politics and current events. He was also a skilled carpenter who used those talents to construct several homes.

Warren was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Those who will always cherish his memory include his two daughters and son-in-law: Linda Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Patricia Anderson and Ted DeLaca of Coolin, Idaho; his grandchildren: Tasha Johnson, Victoria Dubsky, Elisabet DeRoin and Bianca Lundberg; five great-grandchildren: Tyler and Zoë Johnson, and Katherine, Alivia and Lorelai DeRoin; other relatives and many friends.
