Charles W. Moore - May 23, 1938 - Oct. 3, 2007

Charles (Chas) Moore, 69, of Storm Lake, died October 3rd 2007, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center following a lengthy battle with diabetes and heart disease.

Chas was born in Vinita, Oklahoma, on May 23, 1938, to Charles and Sabrina Moore. In 1956 he graduated from Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and earned both his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from Tulsa University in 1961. In 1963 he married Roberta Weitzel in Mason City, Iowa.

Chas received his Ph.D. in Music Composition at the University of Iowa in 1968. He taught music in public schools in Montana, Iowa, and Oklahoma. He also taught at Minot State College, Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota), and Buena Vista University. His Woodwind Quintet won the 1965 Phi Mu Alpha Composition Contest and was published by Mills Music. His musical compositions were performed throughout the United States.

Chas had many interests including hunting and fishing. He was a fan of football, boxing, and loved golf. He enjoyed reading on a variety of topics ranging from philosophy to theoretical physics. He loved to cook and enjoyed experimenting with recipes.

He is survived by his wife Roberta; son Brian (and wife Meghan) of Lowell, MA; son Alan (and wife Sarah) of Philadelphia, PA; brothers Bud Moore (and wife Patty) of Toronto, KS, David Moore (and wife Catherine) of Plano, TX; sister Nancy Riley (and husband Jerry) of Tulsa, OK; and his mother-in-law, Doris Weitzel of Phoenix, AZ. His faithful dog Trixie provided many hours of comfort to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Sabrina Moore, father Charles Moore, father-in-law George Weitzel Sr., brother-in-law George Weitzel, Jr., nephew Jeff Weitzel, and brother-in-law Bobby Street.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 from 6-8:00 pm at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
