Doris A. Christie - Feb. 26, 1920 - Dec. 26, 2007
Doris A. Christie, age 87, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at the Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia, Iowa.
Doris Aurine Hansen, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Newman) Hansen, was born in Arco, Minnesota, on February 26, 1920. Doris lived her youth and received her education in Sulpher Springs.
She was united in marriage to Rollie Nixon on October 3, 1936, in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Carole, Charlotte, Sharon, Rollie and Jerry.
Following their marriage, Rollie and Doris resided in Storm Lake until moving to Walnut Creek, California, in 1942. They returned to Storm Lake in 1951. Doris was a devoted housewife and mother. She worked in the housekeeping department at the Sail Inn Motel for a short period of time. Rollie died in 1982. Doris was united in marriage to Charles Christie on June 24, 1986, in Ida Grove, Iowa. Most of Charlie and Doris’ married lifetime was spent in Ida Grove.
Doris was a member of the Faith Community Church of Ida Grove. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and entertaining friends. Doris’ family held a very special place in her heart and she cherished the time she could spend with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Those who will always cherish Doris’ memory include her husband Charles Christie of Aurelia, her children: Carol and Terry Hartley of Milan, Illinois, Charlotte Sundberg of Alta, Iowa, Sharon and Dale McClain of Geneseo, Illinois, Rollie Nixon of Alta, Iowa, and Jerry and Mary Nixon of Iowa City, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Thelma Borrink of Sioux City, Iowa, LaVonne Bahrke of Neola, Iowa, and Joan Shugar of Storm Lake, Iowa; other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rollie; her son-in-law: Ron Sundberg; and her brother, Frank.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 10:30 AM at the Faith United Assembly of God Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will take place on Friday, December 28, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake with the family present during that time.
