Dr. Robert R. Morris - Aug. 26, 1920 - Feb. 8, 2005

Dr. Robert R. Morris, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Robert Ray Morris was born August 26, 1920, in Bonair, Iowa, to Ray Clarence Morris and Mae Elizabeth (Goldy) Morris. When he was six years old, the family moved to Cresco, Iowa, where he attended public school and graduated from high school with honors in 1939.

Following high school, he was employed by The Hub Men’s Clothing Store until he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He served his country for three and a half years before returning to the States in December of 1945.

His Naval Air Corps Unit surveyed the coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean along borders of North and South America, searching for enemy aircraft and submarines. He earned the rank of Radioman First Class and was an instructor in the Signal Corp.

Following his honorable discharge, Bob was approached by his Uncle Walter Morris and asked if he would manage his variety store back in his hometown of Cresco. After a thoughtful consideration, he remembered the agony of painful feet of his fellow servicemen. It was then he decided to pursue the profession of Podiatry.

On June 15, 1946, he married Grace Kathleen Harvey, who was teaching in Cresco. They were united in marriage at Lake Lutheran Church near Goldfield, Iowa. Following the ceremony, they left for Fort Collins, Colorado, where Bob had enrolled at Colorado State College. He was accepted and received his doctorate degree, cum laude, from Illinois School of Podiatric Medicine and Foot Surgery in Chicago. While attending school, he was employed by the Illinois Masonic Hospital until he opened his private practice in Storm Lake, Iowa, in November of 1951. As part of his practice, he served patients in serveral area nursing homes. He regarded his patients as friends, treating them with kindness as he brought them comfort.

Bob was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He was also involved in civic organizations such as the Hy-Noon Kiwanis and the Airport Commission as well as being an advocate for Methodist Manor. He was an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association for 50 years and served on the Iowa State Board of Podiatric Examiners from 1980 to 1986. During his spare time and after retirement, Bob enjoyed playing cards, motorcycling, visiting with friends, watching sports and observing nature. He was a modest man with a caring and honest personality. He loved people and was known for his quick wit and one-liners.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 ½ years, Grace; their children: Kathleen and husband F. Law Henderson III of Anchorage, Alaska, Krystine and husband Robert Savidge of Mesa, Arizona, R. Gregory Morris and wife Debra of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Jan and husband Ronald Mummert of Spencer, Iowa; his sisters: Goldie May of Chula Vista, California, Frances Anderson and husband Donald of Ankeny, Iowa; brother, George and wife Mary of Milford, Iowa; grandchildren: Madeleine, F.
