Cecil Miller - Apr. 3, 1926 - Mar. 11, 2005

Cecil Robert Miller, age 78, of Plano, Texas, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on March 11, 2005.

Cecil Robert Miller was born in Murray, Iowa, on April 3, 1926, to George William and Mamie (Claypool) Miller. In 1943, Cecil graduated from high school in Storm Lake, Iowa. He then joined the Navy and served during World War II in the Philippine theatre. After returning home, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service (when stamps were 3 cents). It was during this time that he met his future bride at the Cobblestone Ballroom in Storm Lake and they were married June 25, 1950. Cecil changed careers at that time and farmed in the Storm Lake area for seven years before moving away. They were members of the Storm Lake Church of Christ and enjoyed their involvement in the choir.

Cecil and his family, including his father George, moved to East Peru, Iowa, in 1957 where he farmed for the next 37 years. He was an honest, kind man and he enjoyed being with family and friends, playing bridge and cribbage, and cheering for all manner of sports. He had excellent taste in jazz music, a great sense of humor, and loved to golf and bowl. Cecil was very active in various civic organizations and was known for his community spirit.

Farming was Cecil’s life and in 1990 he began making trips from Iowa to Dalhart in the Texas panhandle to help his son-in-law, Bill Kruse, with his farming operation. After he sold the farm in Madison County and moved to West Des Moines, Iowa, he continued to travel to Dalhart to farm. In May of 2004, Cecil and Maxine moved to Plano, Texas, to be closer to their Texas family, leaving behind many cherished friends and family. He passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of March 11, 2005.

His mother, father, and two brothers, Lester Freel Miller and Russell Harken Miller, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Mae (Nielsen) Miller of Plano, Texas; three children, Debby Kruse and husband Bill of Irving, TX, Mark Miller of Los Angeles, California, and Melinda Brown and husband Jim of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers, Kenneth Miller and wife Maxine of Spencer, Iowa, and John Miller of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Jodi (Kruse) Owens and husband Christian of Lewisville, Texas, Stacey Kruse and fiancée Will Hartung of Irving, Texas, Tyler Kruse and wife Adrianne of Dallas, Texas, and Morgan and Mackenzie Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one great-grandson, Cade Patrick Owens of Lewisville, Texas; many beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 11:00 am at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake, Iowa, with Pastor Jack Barber officiating. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

There will be no visitation prior to the memorial service, but after the services, family and friends are invited to gather together to share memories and celebrate Mr. Miller’s life.
