Elaine T. Wheat - Feb. 15, 1911 - May 19 2005

Elaine T. Wheat, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, May 19 2005, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Elaine was born February 15, 1911, in Lehigh, Iowa, to John and Maude (Echelberger) Taylor. She moved to Fort Dodge with her family at the age of nine years.

Elaine was united in marriage to Charles B. Wheat on December 24, 1930, at the home of the Buena Vista College President in Storm Lake. To this union were born two children: Dale and Gayle.

Elaine was an active member of the Church of Christ in Storm Lake and served as deaconess, singing in the church choir and spending many hours in the upkeep of the church. She was a Girl Scouts leader, member of the PTA and American Legion Auxilliary. Along with her husband who was graves registrar for the American Legion post in Storm Lake, Elaine spent 25 years placing flags and crosses on graves to honor the veterans buried at the three cemeteries in Storm Lake.

Cooking, baking and caring for her family were her loves in life along with spending many hours in her beautiful flower gardens. She passed along this love for growing things and for the outdoors to her daughter and granddaughter. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dale, and his wife Elizabeth Wheat of Storm Lake; her daughter, Gayle Sundberg of Storm Lake; a granddaughter, Lori Wheat of Blair, Nebraska; a sister, Marion of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chuck, who died in 1995; two brothers, Virgil and Dean; three sisters, Katheryn, Avis and Virginia; and a son-in-law, Eldon Sundberg.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, May 28, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake. There will be no visitation. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
