Marlyn Hase - Sept. 13, 1922 - May 18, 2005
Marlyn Rae Hase, age 82, of Newell, Iowa, and formerly of Schaller, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center.
Born Marlyn Rae Toomer to Frank and Elsie Toomer on September 13, 1922, she was the sixth daughter of seven children. She graduated from Early High School in 1940 and worked as a telephone operator. She married Vernon Paul Hase on October 3, 1942, in Yuma, Arizona, and they spent the first few years of their marriage living in California and working at the Rohr Defense Plant. They returned to the Midwest, first to Omaha and then Schaller. They opened Vern’s Café, and then Vernon and his brother, Kermit Hase bought Koch’s Appliance Store. During this time, they adopted David Paul Hase born February 28th, 1950, and Susan Elaine Hase born September 22, 1953. Vernon and Marlyn were active within the United Methodist Church where Marlyn taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Vernon died in September of 1962 and Marlyn worked at the Lumber Yard, Woodke Enterprises and 22 ½ years with Andy’s (and later Parky’s) Café.
She loved music, fishing, game shows and travel. In February of 2002, she moved to the Newell Good Samaritan Center.
Marlyn is survived by her daughter, Susan Hase of Storm Lake, Iowa; her son, David and wife Sue Hase, and their children, Bryan Hase, Erin and Dale Jones all of Orlando Florida; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Mrs George Hase, Newell, Iowa, Mr & Mrs Kermit Hase, Holstein, Iowa, Mr & Mrs Howard Stille, Alta, Iowa, Mr & Mrs Frank Hase, Eagle Rock, Missouri, and Adella Shroth, Rolling Rock, California; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Marlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Frank and Elsie Toomer; her sisters, Irene (Lawrence) Riley, Maxine (George) Gunville, Garlene (Byrhl) Cates; two infant sisters; and her brother Melvin “Bud” Toomer.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 21, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Schaller with Reverend Carol Gailey officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Friday, May 20, 2005, from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller where family will be present.
