Alberta Shevel - Apr. 3, 1916 - Oct. 18, 2005

Mrs. Alberta Shevel, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Alberta was born April 3, 1916, at Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of C. J. and Elizabeth (Rusch) Claussen. She was raised in the Schleswig area and received her primary education from the Schleswig school system, graduating from Schleswig High School in 1933. She continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls (then called Iowa State Teachers’ College) and graduated with a two-year Elementary Education degree. Alberta then taught the fifth and sixth grades at Moorehead, Iowa, for two years and then taught fourth grade at Gowrie, Iowa. It was there she met Don Shevel; they married in 1940.

In 1945, Don and Alberta and family moved to the family farm south of Storm Lake. In addition to being a caring mother and making a warm and comfortable home for her family, Alberta served as chairperson of Hayes P.T.C. She was also a faithful member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake where she taught Sunday School, was deacon and elder, served as chairperson of Christian Education and was a member of the ladies circle and Presbyterian Women.

Left to cherish Alberta’s memory are her husband, Don of Storm Lake; daughter Sally and husband Jim Lockwood of Prospect Heights, IL, and their daughters, GwBielenberg
ynn Lockwood of Berkeley, CA, and Dana Lockwood and husband Mark Sanders of New York, NY; daughter Linda Craig and husband Jim Kimball of Portland, OR; daughter Susan and husband Richard Darby of Litchfield Park, Arizona; son Scott and wife Joanie and their daughter Katy of Storm Lake; a sister Pauline and husband Ben Bielenberg of Westlaco, TX; as well as other family and friends.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, C.J. and Elizabeth Claussen, and a brother, Claus.

Memorial Services will be Friday, October 21, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Duane Queen. Inurnment will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

There will be no visitation.
