Janis Chase - Mar. 19, 1935 - Oct. 19, 2005
Janis Chase, age 70, of Alta, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Janis Kay Salvin was born on March 19, 1935, to Clyde Salvin and Irene (Nefstead) Salvin (later Mumm) at Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Emmetsburg and later confirmed in Newell, Iowa. Janis received her grade school education in the Emmetsburg school system before the family moved to the Newell area where she graduated from Newell High School in 1952. During her high school years, Janis enjoyed participation and special mention in music and drama.
On August 22, 1952, Janis was united in marriage to James Chase in Jackson, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children: Lee, Lynn and Layne.
Janis was a loving wife and devoted mother who treasured her family and friends. In addition to keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family, she worked for many years as the manager of the Alta Golf and Country Club. Janis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta where she served as president of the women’s group (WELCA) and was a member of Esther Circle as well as chair of the committee in charge of serving funeral lunches. She also enjoyed quilting for her church group.
Janis served on the board of the Alta Library and was a member of the local Red Hat Society organization. In her spare moments, she liked to read and enjoyed playing golf. Janis was a tireless worker for any cause she was asked to promote and loved visiting and spending time with the many people with whom she met through her work and church activities. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, James of Alta; Lee Chase of Omaha, Nebraska; Lynn and husband Keith Hughes of Arnolds Park, Iowa; and Layne and wife Lauri Chase of Oto, Iowa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Nikki and husband Matt Johnson, Jamie Chase, Jason Chase, Amie Hughes, Tony Hughes, Jessica and husband Jeffry Allen and Joshua Chase; great-grandchildren: Kyndra Chase, Jonah Chase, Kera Johnson, Haven Chase, Brian Chase, Melanie Leggio, Joseph Leggio, Jamen Allen, Joey Allen and Journey Allen; one brother, Ronnie Salvin; as well as extended family and a host of friends.
Janis was preceded by her father, Clyde Salvin; her mother, Irene Salvin Mumm and her step-father, William Mumm.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 21, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta with Reverend Ted Eilders officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 20, 2005, anytime after 5:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m.
