Dean Stull - Aug. 30, 1930 - Jan. 26, 2004

Dean Stull, age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Monday, January 26, 2004, at the family farm near Storm Lake.

Dean Stull was born on August 30, 1930, in Buena Vista County to Ralph and Bertha (Keith) Stull. He spent his childhood in his parents’ rural home near Storm Lake, attending Washington Township country school through the 8th grade, and then graduated from Storm Lake High with the Class of 1947.

On February 18, 1951, Dean was united in marriage to Carolyn Shannon in Storm Lake. Their union was blessed with four sons: John David, Randal Nick and Lonny; and five daughters: Jane, Cindy, Diana, Cheryl and Sonya. Dean and Carolyn would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary in February this year.

Dean spent his life working the land that he loved, farming in the Storm Lake area. He was an avid NASCAR fan and liked to restore antique farm equipment. He enjoyed attending tractor pulls at county fairs. But the greatest joy in his life was his family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and a doting grandfather. He loved having his grandchildren around him, and spent as much of his time as he possibly could with them. Whether it was helping the grandkids with a project in his garage or attending their various events, Dean always seemed to have children around him—and that’s how he liked it.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn of Storm Lake; his sons: Nick of Ames, and Lonny of Storm Lake; his daughters: Jane and husband Sonny Madden of Storm Lake, Cindy and husband Marvin Wernimont of Rembrandt, Diana Hummel of Shenandoah, Cheryl and husband David DeMan of Rembrandt, and Sonya Vrieze of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Jennifer Péna, Christine Mileham, Michael Stull, Natasha Dailey, Cory Wernimont, Chad Hummel, Brian Hummel, Brianne Perrigo, Lisa DeMan, Andrew DeMan, Michael Vrieze, Jeremy Vrieze, Alex Vrieze and Jacob Vrieze; great-grandchildren: Felicia and Devon Madden, Jessica and Rebecca Péna, Sydney, Tanner, Brielle and Erin Wernimont; and many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Reverend David Koehler will officiate.

Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friends wishing to send condolences to the family may do online.
