Colleen Vohs, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Galva, Iowa, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Naomi Colleen Thompson was born on September 14, 1929, in Soldier, Iowa, to Nel and Violet (Kline) Thompson. She attended grade school at Jordan Township Country School in rural Soldier, Iowa, graduating from Soldier High School in 1947.

Colleen was baptized and confirmed on August 26, 1945, at the Soldier Lutheran Country Church in Soldier, Iowa. She was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa, having served as a member of WELCA and Church Circle. Additionally, Colleen was active in church quilting in both Holstein and Storm Lake.

On April 20, 1952, Colleen was united in marriage to Lester Vohs in the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier. This couple was blessed with four children: Jeffrey, Julie, Lisa and Joel.

Over the years, Colleen was an active member of the Buena Vista Hospital Auxiliary and SERPACI Antique Car Club. She volunteered at the Buena Vista Coffee and Gift Shop and quilted for World Relief at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein and St. Mark Lutheran in Storm Lake. For over 55 years, Colleen and Lester enjoyed playing cards with their 500 card group. Additionally, Colleen looked forward to walking with her Early Morning Walking Group.

Colleen was a dedicated and devoted homemaker and mother. She found much pleasure in making quilts for her family, doing needlework, making porcelain dolls, and painting Santa’s for her children and family (as a special Christmas gift each year.) More than anything, Colleen loved and cherished her family and the time they spent together.
