Doris “Jean” Brunning - Jan. 8, 1936 - Jan. 30, 2004

Doris “Jean” Brunning, age 68, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, January 30, 2004, at her home.

Doris Davis was born on January 8, 1936, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Jay and Charlotte Christina (Schutt) Davis. She spent her childhood in her parents’ home in Cherokee, Iowa, attending grade school there and graduating from Cherokee High School with the Class of 1954.

On August 27, 1954, Doris was united in marriage to James H. Brunning in Cherokee. Their union was blessed with two sons and two daughters.

Doris was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was able to put her talents in that area to good use for 21 years as a baker for the Food Service at Storm Lake High Community Schools. She liked to travel, spend time with her friends, enjoyed reading for pleasure and prized every day of her life.

Doris’ greatest delight was her family. She was a caring daughter and sister, a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother who treasured every moment she was able to spend with her loved ones. She will be forever missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Charlotte Davis of Cherokee; children: Wendy and husband Jerry Sanderson of Marshalltown, IA; Larry and wife Doreen Brunning of Storm Lake,and Jay Brunning of Nevada, IA; grandchildren: Dustin, Jordan and Camie Brunning; her sisters: Mary and husband Glenn Lang of Elkton, SD, and Rose and husband Howard Mordick of Spencer, IA; her dear friend, Nancy Niedert of Waterloo, IA; and many extended family members and friends.

Preceding Doris in death were her father, Jay Davis; her husband, James, in September 1974; and her daughter, Shari, in February 1978.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Friends may call anytime after 12:00 on Sunday at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where family will greet friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Friends wishing to send condolences to the family may do so online.
