Dan Finnegan, age 59, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Ruthven, Iowa, died Friday, January 30, 2004, at his home.
Daniel Anthony Finnegan was born on January 19, 1945, to George and Ruth (Myers) Finnegan at Ruthven, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Dan spent his elementary and high school years at Ruthven Community Schools. Following high school graduation, Dan served with the United States Navy from August 1965 through August 1968 during the Vietnam conflict. He attended Drake University where he graduated with honors in December 1972 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He held the position of Vice President of Underwriting for Allied Insurance Company and was an insurance administrator until his retirement.
On June 19, 1970, Dan was united in marriage to Janet Rouse at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. He and Jan would have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary next summer.
Dan enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and was an avid sports fan. He liked playing cards—especially Pinochle and Buck Euchre. Dan found great pleasure in just being around people; he especially enjoyed the innocence of youth and the wisdom of the elderly. He was always full of surprises and loved to make people laugh. Dan treated everyone well—he had a good heart and believed in living by the Golden Rule.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jan; his brothers: Bob and wife Ellie Finnegan, Dave Finnegan, Pat Finnegan, Mike and wife Liz Finnegan, Ken and wife Nancy Finnegan, Albert and wife Cecilia Finnegan, Ray and wife Pat Finnegan, Roger and wife Darlene Finnegan and Dennis Finnegan; his sisters: Rosanne and husband Max Girres, Mary and husband Ed Smith, and Francie and husband Dennis Anderson; and many extended family members and friends.
