Dorothy Vandeweerd - June 1, 1921 - Jan. 23, 2004
Dorothy Vandeweerd, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Friday, January 23, 2004, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Dorothy Marie Peterson was born on June 1, 1921, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Pete and Della (Clark) Peterson. She spent her childhood in her parents’ home in Storm Lake and attended Storm Lake schools.
On June 24, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth Johnson, Sr. Two sons were born to their union. Dorothy and Kenneth were blessed with 46 years of marriage before Kenneth died in 1985. In 1988, Dorothy married John Vandeweerd. John passed away in 1998.
Dorothy enjoyed fishing and liked to play cards. She had an avid interest in antiques and enjoyed buying and selling them. She loved her church and was a faithful member. Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who treasured her family and the time she could spend with them.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Kenny and wife Jane Johnson, and Johnny and wife Peg Johnson, all of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Laura Frazier, Kreg Johnson, Tiffany Carlson and Kristy Miller; great-grandchildren: Travis, Lindsay, Noah and Carter Frazier, Jacie, Bria and Ashley Carlson; Jeff Maymon and Megan Miller; her sister, Berniece Illum; many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; her husband, Kenneth Johnson in 1985; her husband, John Vandeweerd in 1998; and her brother Bob Peterson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2004, at 11:00 a.m at the United Church of Christ in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family online.
