Loren H. Piercy, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Loren Homan Piercy was born May 22, 1925, in Newell, Iowa, to Edgar Wilbur and Kathryn (Homan) Piercy. He grew up in the Newell area, attending elementary and high school there. Loren entered the U.S. Army in July of 1943 and served during World War II with the 573rd Anti-aircraft Division as a Staff Sergeant. He was awarded medals for combat before he was honorably discharged in April of 1946.

Loren was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, having been baptized in the church on February 26, 1983.

On December 5, 1948, Loren was united with Ruby Rose Hansen in holy matrimony at Newell. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Kevin Loren and Kimberly Layne.

Loren and Ruby raised their family together while Loren worked as a plumber and electrician for 35 years and then for the United States Postal Service for 10 years before he retired on November 28, 1989. He was a loving husband, devoted father and treasured grandfather and great-grandfather whose family was always first in his life. Loren liked to go camping and was especially fond of the autumn of the year, taking rides in the car to enjoy the countryside. He was a happy person and you could often hear his laughter when he was visiting with friends and enjoying his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 56 years, Ruby Rose Piercy, of Storm Lake; his two sons: Kevin and wife Gloria of Storm Lake and Kim and wife Susan of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Heath and wife Amy Piercy, Amy Piercy and husband Matt Korell, Travis Piercy, Ryan Piercy and Brandon Piercy; great-grandchildren: Dorian Korell, Addyson Korell, Camryn Korell, Cole Piercy, Kiley Piercy, Caden Piercy and Karsyn Piercy; his brother, Norman W. Piercy and a special family that Loren loved: Kathy and Greg Hansen and their children Christopher, Beth and Colleen; plus many extended family members and a host of friends.
