Catherine A. Kestel - Sept. 23, 1909 - Mar. 26, 2003

Catherine A. Kestel, age 93, of Storm Lake died March 26, 2003, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Catherine Alice Grigsby was born in Aurelia, Iowa, on September 23, 1909, to Charles and Mary (Clancy) Grigsby. She lived with her parents on a farm between Rembrandt and Truesdale. Catherine attended and graduated from the Rembrandt High School.

On September 10, 1930, Catherine married Albert Kestel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. To this union, three children were born. Catherine worked at Swallum Hospital as a nurse’s aid.

Catherine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake where she was an active member of the Ladies Circle.

She loved to be outdoors, especially mowing the grass and fishing. Catherine enjoyed crocheting as well as making afghans. She had a special dog, Smokey.

Survivors include her children, Richard Kestel and wife Jean of Arnolds Park, Iowa, Phyllis Fisher and husband Paul of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and daughter-in-law, Lois Kestel of Schaller; grandchildren: Barbi Greenlaw of Ames, Jennifer Call of Worden, Illinois, Deborah Jump of Cedar Rapids, Linda Coffin of Burlington, Tom Fisher of Bloomington, Minnesota, Susan Fisher of Tempe, Arizona, Dan Fisher of Mesa, Arizona, John Fisher of Hiawatha, Iowa, Vicky Turnquist of Schaller, Connie Davidson of Schaller, Mary Beth Wandrey of Schaller, Shelly Wiese of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathy Kluver of Storm Lake, Kim Sjuts of Clitherall, Minnesota, and Jim Kestel of Schaller; twenty-five great grandchildren; sister, Cecilia Leehy of Lincoln, Nebraska; and other extended family and friends.

Preceding Catherine in death are her parents; her husband, Albert; son, Norman; siblings, Ray Grigsby, Irene Grigsby, Mae Kestel and infant twin brothers.

Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Bruce Lawler, Reverend Eugene Murray, and Reverend Ed Murray officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with a Legion of Mary Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m.
