Robert Lamb - May 4, 1919 - June 15, 2003

Robert Lamb, age 84, of Storm Lake died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Robert Leslie Lamb was born on the family farm May 4, 1919, in Oak Center, Wabasha County, Minnesota, the son of Harvey and Clara (Gilbert) Lamb. Robert engaged in farming on the family farm with his father. In 1953 after finishing electrical/radio school in Minnesota, Robert relocated to Storm Lake and worked as the chief radio engineer at radio station KAYL until 1975. After the radio station, he worked as a custodian at Storm Lake High School and at the Methodist Manor. He retired in 1981.

Robert married Beatrice Atkinson on September 19, 1948. Robert married Esther (Gerke) Stieghorst, widow of Ray Stieghorst on May 24, 1980. Robert and Esther enjoyed traveling around the United States and visited many sights.

Robert enjoyed his grandchildren, participating in camera club, working on amateur radio, gardening, and attending church functions. One fun activity was playing dominoes with the grandchildren. Because of his interest in electronics, he was continually building radio components for his Ham Radio Station KØEVC. He was the key member of the local Ham radio club. You would find him constantly talking to other radio enthusiasts from his radio in the basement of his home. He often told stories of the many people he would encounter in his conversations.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Clara Lamb; an infant son; his first wife Beatrice (Atkinson) Lamb; one granddaughter; sister Edith Meyer; and brother Harold Lamb.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Lamb of Storm Lake; brother, Alfred and wife Vera Lamb; brother, Arliss Lamb; one daughter, Nancy and husband Ramon Mayo of New York; two sons, Bill and wife Mary Lamb of Ocala, Florida, and Andy and wife Mary Lamb of Tucson, Arizona; three step-daughters, Diane and husband Gary Christiansen of Peterson, Donna and husband Dave Dose of Storm Lake, and Darlene and husband Blaine Perry of Aurelia; 18 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, at 11:00a.m. with Reverend Douglas Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the Gilford Township Cemetery in Oak Center, Wabasha County, Minnesota, on Thursday, June 19 at 1:00 p.m.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
