Doris M. Gustafson - Mar. 19, 1916 - June 13, 2003
Doris M. Gustafson, 87, of Alta, died, Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a brief illness.
Doris Maxine Ang was born March 19, 1916, near Arthur, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Johnson) Ang. She lived with her family near Arthur and Kiron, attending Arthur Country School through the 9th grade.
On May 30, 1937, Doris was married to Everett C. A. Gustafson in Arnolds Park, Iowa. To this union four children were born. The coupled lived in the Odebolt and Arthur area before moving to Storm Lake. The couple then moved to Varina and have been in Alta since 1964.
Doris was baptized in the Baptist Church near Arthur. She was a cook at the Lakeshore Café and also worked at the Cherokee State Institute. Doris had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning for her family. Her family believes she was the “glue” that held them all together.
She is survived by a son Ronald Gustafson of Alta; two daughters: Janice Hoffard of Sac City and Judy Gustafson of Early; a daughter-in-law Karen Gustafson of Storm Lake; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents; her husband Everett; a son Marlin; two brothers Wilmer and Kenwood; a sister Lucille; two sisters-in-law Maxine and Dorothy; a brother-in-law Levi Plaine and a son-in-law James Hoffard.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 16th, at 11:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Hinshaw officiating. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present.
