Marian Wernimont - Aug. 27, 1928 - Aug. 3, 2003
Marian Wernimont, age 74, of Rembrandt passed away Sunday, August 3, 2003, at the Longhouse Northshire Ltc. Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa.
Marian Louise Boyd was born August 27, 1928, at the home of her Grandmother Thayer in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Durelle “Bill” and Ila (Thayer) Boyd. She graduated from the Hayes High School in 1946.
On February 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Marcellus William Wernimont of Sulpher Springs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. 15 children were born to this union.
The couple started farming in the Laurens area and lived in Pocahontas for seven years. In 1956, they moved to Auburn and in 1964 to the Rembrandt area where they were dairy farmers. Marcellus and Marian moved into town at Rembrandt in 1980. They stayed busy by attending farmers markets and catering “Dad’s Belgian Waffles” for fund-raisers and special occasions.
Marian’s memberships included St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids and honorary member of St. Joseph’s guild. She was also a member of the Twins Club in Storm Lake.
Her hobbies and interests included gardening, her flowers, baking, reading, sewing and doing fancy work. Her collections include statues of the Virgin Mary, angels and Boyd Bears. Her life’s priority was that of raising her 15 children. She enjoyed doing whatever she could for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian felt fortunate to have been raised in a good home herself and to have a great family of her own.
She is survived by her seven sons and their wives, Michael and Myrna of Sioux Rapids, Mark and Karen of Sac City, Marvin and Cindy of Rembrandt, Martin and Beth of Waterloo, Maynard and Kathy of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Myron and Sandy of Spencer and Milo and Mary also of Sioux Rapids; seven daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Jim Nelsen of Albert City, Margaret and Scott McDermott of Estherville, Mary and Blair Raveling of Linn Grove, Marita and Don Kenyon of Storm Lake, Maxine and Larry Hoffman of Des Moines, Marsha and John Arndt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marlys and Bob Jennings of Algona and a daughter-in-law, Betty Wernimont of Spirit Lake; 34 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother James Boyd of Atlantic, sister, Elsie—Mrs. Norbert Kacmarynski of Linn Grove and sisters-in-law, Sister Agnes Wernimont of Hiawatha and Patty Wernimont Pike of Prescott, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Dorothy Mae, husband Marcellus in 1998, son Mendal, granddaughter Lisa Nelsen Sauter, son-in-law Phillip McHugh, parents-in-law Tony and Agnes Wernimont, sister-in-law Melba Boyd, brother-in-law Cleo Wernimont, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom Cox and his wife Anna.
Funeral services for Marian Wernimont, age 74, of Rembrandt will be held on Thursday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids with the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Friends and family may call at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake any time after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, where the family will be present. Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited again at 8:30 p.m.
